The University of South Florida continues to lead in the education of America’s veterans. The Military Times’ annual evaluation of nearly 500 colleges and universities saw the University of South Florida rank fourth among all four-year U.S institutions.

USF has consistently ranked in the top-five among public, four-year institutions in the annual Best for Vets: Top Colleges rankings by Military Times, taking the number one spot overall in 2017.

The Military Times ranks schools based on academic outcomes, veteran culture within the institution, veteran services and special accommodations or financial incentives for students with links to the military.

“Our services and programs for veteran and military students are both innovative and comprehensive, as they support these students through their transition out of the military into academia and then into careers,” states Larry Braue, Director of the Office of Veterans Success at USF.

This “comprehensive support” and innovative education provided to the 1,800+ veteran students USF serves has garnered the university accolades from multiple rankings lists, including:

  • No. 1 in Florida and No. 4 among all four-year U.S institutions in the Military Times Best for Vets: Top Colleges (2020).
  • Ranked 61st in Best Colleges for Veterans (2023) by U.S. News and World Report
  • No. 4 among public institutions and No. 5 overall in the Military Times 10 Best Cybersecurity Programs (2018).
  • One of only 15 universities in the nation selected as a Tillman Partnership University of the Pat Tillman Foundation, based on innovative veteran-specific support services and a proven culture of community for military families.

The recognition from the Pat Tillman Foundation also includes the Tillman Scholars program, with 19 USF students receiving the scholarship award since the program’s inception in 2009. The 2020 Tillman Scholars include Matthew Jenkins, a USF nurse anesthesia graduate student and Marine Corps veteran.

The University of South Florida salutes the service of active military servicemembers and military veterans. The online graduate degree and certificate programs offer students the opportunity to achieve educational goals with the flexibility of studying online from anywhere around the world.
